Bird feeders with recycled cans

Bird feeders with recycled cans

If you like to recycle, here is a very fun craft to decorate your garden. We have cleaned a couple of cans of food and has made some feeders for birds. The idea is fantastic, because with a little eva rubber, paint, some strings and beads we have made something very fun and with many colors.

The materials I have used for two cans:

  • Two empty and clean cans for recycling
  • Blue eva rubber
  • Pink eva rubber
  • Spray paint of any color or acrylic paint
  • A thick rope
  • Wooden beads of different sizes and colors
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Hot silicone and her gun
  • Small round tip screwdriver
  • A hammer
  • A drawing in the shape of a flower. You can print it on this photo:

You can see this craft step by step in the following video:

First step:

We have to prepare the cans very clean and dry before painting them. We will paint with the spray the outside of the can, in my case I have used the color white. Or if you prefer you can paint it from acrylic paint. In my case I have used the color blue.

Second step:

We print a flower and we do it on such a scale that we can fit the circumference of the boat inside the drawing. We cut out the paper flower.

Third step:

We take the cut flower and place it on top of the eva rubber. We are going to use the flower as a template to make another replica. For it we draw the outline of the drawing in the rubber foam and later we will cut it. In this way we will already have the flower to place it later.

Fourth step:

We place the can in the central part of the flower and we draw the outline with a pencil. Then we will draw another small circle inside the large circle that we have drawn. We will cut the small circle and all the margin that we have left until the large circle we will cut it in small eyelashes. We will use these tabs to stick the flower on the can.

Fifth step:

We stick the flower in the can Putting a drop of silicone on each tab and joining it in the can, in this way we will leave the shape of the petals on the outside.

Step Six:

We pierce the can on two sides, one in the front area and one in the back. To make the holes we will help ourselves with a fine or small screwdriver and a hammer. In this way we will do it quickly and easily.

Seventh step:

We will put the rope in one of the holes and we will knot it in the part that is not visible. In the other part that will be hung we will put the beads. We will leave part of the rope that is going to hang and we will calculate the necessary length to re-tie the other end in the other hole. Before tying it we will put the beads they will go on the other side. In this way we will have our cans in the shape of bird feeders ready.
