Cats made from cardboard tubes

Cats made from cardboard tubes

Thanks to the cardboard tubes that we can have at home, we can make some cute kittens so they can serve as boats to store our paints and pens. It is a very beautiful craft so you can do it with the little ones in the house.

With a little imagination we can line the tubes with metallic or glitter cardstock. Or, we can paint them with acrylic paint. The face is made with cardboard and the rest of the materials are first-hand so that we can make the face of the cat.

The materials that I have used are:

  • Pink glitter cardstock
  • Gold colored cardstock
  • 4 recycled cardboard tubes, for just one cat
  • Two pink pipe cleaners to make the mustaches
  • A small pom pom of brown or similar color
  • Two plastic eyes
  • Two large pastel colored pompoms to simulate legs
  • Permanent black marker
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Hot silicone and her gun

You can see this craft step by step in the following video:

First step:

We choose the cardboard to line the tubes. We take the necessary measures, we cut them out and glue them to the tubes with the help of the hot silicone. I have chosen silicone as glue so that the cardboard can be glued quickly and with force.

Second step:

On the back of the gold cardboard we draw the face of the cat and cut it out. In the golden part of the cardboard we begin to glue the elements of the face. We start by gluing the plastic eyes.

Third step:

We take the pipe cleaner and cut equal pieces to place and glue six strips, making the shape of the mustache. We will also paste the pompom that will be the cat's nose. With the black marker we draw the cat's mouth, we look at the photo.

Fourth step:

We join the four tubes with the silicone, they have to be aligned and with indistinct colors, not followed. We take the cat's face and stick it on the first tube. With the black marker we paint the inside of the ears.

Fifth step:

We glue the big pompoms in the lower part of the tubes to emulate the cat's paws. We draw the tail on the gold cardboard, with a wavy shape. We put the tail at the end of one of the tubes, on the opposite side of the face. Either we can fit the tail with a small cut in the tube, or by gluing it.
