The coasters They are a very useful object but at the same time they can be a decorative element. In this tutorial I teach you to design some clay coasters with imitation of mosaic, that is, we are going to give them a mosaic effect but without having created it in them.
Materials
To make the mosaic-imitation clay coasters you will need the following materials:
- Clay: you can use the type of clay or modeling paste that you want.
- Awl or sharp object
- Roller
- Thick chopsticks
- Acrylic paint
- Varnish
- Brush
Step by step
It is simpler than it seems, and in the following video you can check it. In it I explain step by step what you should do. Check it out!
After watching the video tutorial, perhaps the only difficulty that comes your way is choosing a design and color combination.
Remember:
1 º Roll out the clay. Help yourself with the toothpicks and place them as in the images so that the coasters are at the same height. Do not use very thin toothpicks, since we want the coasters a bit thick so that they are not so fragile.
2 º With the punch go creating the grooves to imitate the tesserae of the mosaics. You can make them any size and shape you want.
3 º Let them dry completely.
4 º Apply a coat of acrylic paint in the color you want the joints of your mosaic to be. Hit the holes well and let it dry.
5 º Paint the surface gently so the paint doesn't get into the gaps. You can do it by hand directly if you don't mind getting drunk, or you can always use the brush.
6 º When the paint is dry apply one or two coats of varnish. This can be the finish you want, but it is important to apply it to protect the coasters well, since they are an object that we are going to use.
And you will easily have some original and very decorative coasters designed by you.
