Decorated cage to decorate tables

Decorated cage to decorate tables

This is an easy craft for you to do at home with first-hand materials. It is a cage that we can learn first-hand, with simple steps such as cutting a polystyrene, some toothpicks or cutting cardboard. You would only have to paint the cardboard with white acrylic paint, and with the silicone, paste those cuts that will make the shape of the roof. Finally we would place the decorative elements that can be most to personal taste or how I have detailed in this craft.

The materials that I have used are:

  • two 12 x 12 cm square pieces of polystyrene, up to 4 cm thick
  • chopsticks (skewer type)
  • a thin cardboard box for recycling (can be a shoe box)
  • acrylic white paint
  • hot silicone glue with gun
  • a brush
  • decoration elements such as stars, flowers or pompoms

You can see this craft step by step in the following video:

First step:

We have to have some sticks of a length over 24 cm. If this is not the case we cut them so that they are not too high for the cage. We are puncturing the sticks in the piece of one of the polystyrene squares. We are careful that they are all placed at the same distance. Placed the sticks we make them coincide in the other piece of polystyrene. In this way we will have the shape of our cage made.

Second step:

We measure the sides of the cage to make cardboard strips to cover those edges. The strips will be as long as they are and about 3 cm thick. We will also make the triangles for the front and back of the roof. By making one of them we can make a copy of the second. We will measure the quadrant parts of the sides of the roof and cut them out. We paint all these cartons with white paint. When it is dry, if we see that it needs another coat of paint, we apply it.

Third step:

We are going to place all our cardboard cutouts in the cage, with the help of the hot silicone. We emphasize that the pieces are well fastened. Once the cage is finished, we can now place with the same silicone, all decorative elements.
