How to decorate a boat with a hippo - Children's crafts

In this tutorial I teach you how to decorate the lid of a jar with the face of a hippopotamus, to make it much more fun and eye-catching. Is craft you can do it with children, since its modeling is very easy.

Materials

To make the hippopotamus boat you will need the following materials:

  • Jar that you want to decorate with lid included
  • Polymer clay, either air dried or baked (colors white, blue and black)
  • Modeling tools such as awl or a knife

Step by step

You should start by setting aside the boat and keeping only the tapa, which is what we are going to decorate. Take your blue clay and cover the lid with it, pressing a little with your hands so that it adheres well. It will be easier for you if first smooth the clay and you place it on the lid. To smooth it, you can use a roller, but if you don't have it, you can use the same pot that you are going to decorate.

Next we will do the snout of the hippopotamus. To do this you must take another piece of blue clay. Roll it into a ball and then roll it back and forth until it stretches a bit, like a croquette. Place it on the lid, slightly downward, and flatten it with the palm of your hand.

To add details make three little holes with it awl on each side of the muzzle, and with a tool that ends in a ball you can make some bigger holes to simulate the nose. Since children have small fingers, they can make their noses by pressing the little finger directly into the clay.

We are going to add the fangs to finish the muzzle. Make two equal balls of white clay, and roll them back and forth to stretch them a bit. You just have to stick them under the muzzle.

To do the eyes create two black clay balls and glue them to the face.

Only the ears. Take two blue balls, roll them on one side so that only one part stretches. This is how you will create a drop. Squash those drops and bend the spikes a bit to shape them. And to put them on the face of the hippopotamus glue them with the beak down, if you glue them backwards it will not look like a hippopotamus.

And voila, you can use your boat to decorate and save what you want. It's great for treats and dules.
