How to make a decorative mirror by drying green leaves

Cheap crafts

Hi! Today's craft is somewhat peculiar. Taking my dog out for a walk I saw some vines, which I have always liked, but I would not put them at home because they stain the walls a lot. And I thought… if I could have them without having them? And one thing led to another. I imagined a mirror, surrounded by those leaves. Can it look good or not? So, before my partner arrived, I got down to business.

I am going to show you step by step how I have done it, the result has been this!

  • Thin and rigid plate
  • Glue
  • Brush
  • Scrap of mirror or mirror that we are left with.

Our Process

How to preserve cut green leaves for crafts

  1. Remove the tails from all the leaves if they have one and put them on top of aluminum foil. That they are all well distributed, because the first of all is going to be drying them out.
  2. Put the oven at 180-200ºC for approximately 10 minutes and let it take the temperature well. Then put the leaves inside for 80 or 90 seconds. No more time, or they would start to burn, and no less, because we are interested in drying them.
  3. After that take them out, you will even see that they have been deformed a little, but the leaves have lost much of their plasticity apart from being greener. Put in the oven the aluminum tray that we have improvised so many times how many sheets to create that you are going to use. Shoot overhead, they better spare, and it's a moment.

Crafts with what nature offers us

  1. Start gluing the sheets by the edge of the plate (in my case of wood) that you have taken.
  2. Take the mirror and stick it in the center. If, as in my case, it has a plastic protector, remove it now, because now from each corner, you are going to put sheets pointing towards it. Let them dry for 1 hour once you are done.
  3. Finally, finish gluing sheets around the mirror. You can make a second layer of width like I did, that will suit you, or finish decorating it with some leaves.
