Learn to weave with a cardboard fish

Hello everybody! In today's craft We are going to make this curious cardboard fish perfect for learning to weave. This craft allows us to make and understand how are the different types of basic stitches that we can do to weave.

Do you want to know how you can do it?

Materials that we will need to make this craft to learn to knit.

  • Card stock of at least two colors, one for the fish that will contain 'the threads' of the warp and another for what will be the threads of the weft. The warp are the children that are attached to the loom, while the weft are the children that we intertwine with the warp to get a fabric to be woven.
  • Scissors and cutter
  • Pencil

Hands on craft

  1. The first thing we are going to do is draw a fish in a simple way on the cardboard. You can do it the size you prefer, the bigger the larger the area to learn to knit.
  2. We cut this fish.

  1. We draw on the part of the body several lines that go from head to tail, in this way the lines will occupy the widest part.
  2. We will review these lines with the cutter to be able to open them without reaching the ends of the fish. This will be our base, our loom with the warp, where we begin to weave.

  1. Now in another color of cardboard we are going to cut strips of about half a centimeter. You can use several colors of cardboard if you want to make a particular design to see what the result would be like before transferring it to the fabric. In this way, in addition to learning, This craft also serves to have as a reference the design that we want to capture.
  2. Now it only remains to pass the cardboard strips between the warp.

And ready! Now we just have to find images of different shapes of flat weave like twill and start practicing.
