Upcycle a dress into a skirt and crop top

I have had this dress at home for a long time and the truth is, I had only worn it once. So, seeing that, skirts and crop tops are so fashionable I thought maybe I could recycle it. And here is the result and a small tutorial in case any fan of fashion can take advantage of the idea and apply it to a dress they have at home.

As you will see, the tutorial is very simple and if you have a little idea to sew, you will not even need a sewing machine.

Material

  • A dress tight that you want to recycle.
  • Scissors, thread and needle.
  • Sewing machine if you prefer to do it with it.
  • Una rubber for the waist of the skirt.
  • Tape measure.
  • Needles

Our Process

We will stretch the dress on a smooth surface and we will mark the height of the waist to make the skirt and the height at which we want the crop top. Always thinking that, we have to leave two centimeters of margin for the hem.

Next, we will mark with needles and cut. Later, we will hem the crop top. To do this, simply fold the edge inward and sew. If we do not know how to do it by hand, we can do it with the machine, it is faster and will be more perfect if we are not very skilled at sewing.

Then we will do the same with the skirt but, passing a rubber band  that we do not squeeze too much inside the hem. And we will have our crop top and skirt ready.

The truth is that the skirt I do not know if I will wear it, but the crop top, I'm sure I will wear it on more than one occasion this summer. It has been fantastic!

If you liked the post and the idea to make a crop top and a skirt from a dress, share, comment and like it.

Until the next DIY!
