In this tutorial you will learn to easily create a soccer ball with Fimo or polymer clay. The polygons pose a difficulty that in reality is not so much with the technique that I teach you in this Step by Step.
Materials
To make the soccer ball with Fimo or polymer clay you will need to:
- Styrofoam ball: It should be a smaller diameter than you want your ball to be. I advise you to use a Styrofoam ball about 2cm smaller, since adding the clay will considerably increase its size.
- Two-color clay: I'll show you the classic black and white ball, but use whatever colors you want your ball to have. The clay must be air-dried, since we cannot bake the polystyrene ball that will go inside the ball.
Step by step
To make the soccer ball with Fimo or polymer clay you will have to make a few balls of the colors you have chosen. Make them small, as you see in the image.
Be guided by the colors that I have chosen. Mine in the center will be black, so I stick it with the Styrofoam ball.
Next the one to surround with the balls of the other color.
The most normal thing is that the soccer ball is formed by pentagons, that is, five-sided polygons. To do this you must place five balls around the central ball. I have placed six and therefore hexagons come out, that is, six-sided polygons.
Remember, put as many balls around as you want the sides to have. Cover the entire polystyrene ball, down to the last hole.
You will see that it takes on a certain resemblance to a soccer ball but that the shapes of the balls are still very round.
To create the polygons you simply have to roll the ball with your hands. Do not overtighten so that the balls are not squashed too much. You will see how it takes shape.
As the balls roll, they press against each other and the sides flatten out a bit.
You may wonder why you want to do a Fimo or clay soccer ball. You can use it as a keychain or give it to a football fan. It is especially used by those people who make personalized clay figures or fofuchas. Sometimes they must create a ball, depending on the order that they have made or on what they want to do the doll.
You never know when you will need to do it, and the truth is that painting pentagons on a ball with the help of a ruler is really complicated. This is the simplest, fastest and risk-free way to make mistakes.
