Tablecloth with beads

tablecloth with beads finished work

Today we are going to learn how to decorate a tablecloth with beads instead of the typical cross stitch, for example. It is very easy, cheap and very popular, besides being very original.

Materials

  • A tablecloth that we want to decorate
  • Fine needle and sewing thread (as resistant as possible so that it will not be damaged by the rockery)
  • Seed beads of different colors, depending on the design
  • Thick cotton son (for the leaves in my case)

Crafting

The first thing you have to do is think about the design of your tablecloth. In this case, I have used a narrow table runner, rather than a tablecloth that covers the entire surface. That is why I have only proposed my design at the ends, in the areas outside the table.

I recommend that you do it like this, since otherwise it may not be very useful for glasses, for example.

Choose a design that covers the surface without weighing you down, or one that allows you to easily repeat or cut it. In my case I used this one.

Now you will have to trace the design onto the fabric. To do this, fix the design to your tablecloth with clips so that it does not move. Put yourself on a glass surface with a light underneath and transfer the drawing to the fabric. I usually use No. 2 pencils: they mark easily and are usually removed without problems with washing. They also allow you to make a fairly precise line.

Once the drawing is transferred, it is time to start with the beads. In this case I have used small rockery. You can find it easily and in a multitude of colors, which will help you create designs to your liking.

For sew the rockery I recommend using a needle as fine as possible, otherwise you will discard balls because you cannot pass the needle through the hole. It is also convenient that the thread is strong so that it does not break easily.

If you want the design, as in my case, to be perfectly round, after sewing the balls to the fabric, you can give a second pass with thread, simply advancing along all of them without any interior stitch, and pulling on the last moment. This will allow you to align and round them.

Finally I have used a thick cotton child for the leaves, to change the design a bit, but you could also do it with green rockeries.

I hope you find the idea interesting and useful.

See you in the next article.
