In this tutorial I will teach you how to create a trivet with flat wooden sticks, or also called polo sticks. It is very practical and inexpensive. In addition, I will give you an idea to decorate your trivet by applying the decoupage technique, which will be easy for you and you will see that it is a great result.

Materials

To make the trivet with flat sticks you will need the materials that I provide below. Let's start with the structure:

trivet materials

  • Eight flat wooden sticks
  • Two thick round wooden chopsticks
  • Gun silicone

To apply the decoupage you will need these other materials:

  • Paper napkin or special paper for decoupage
  • White glue or special adhesive for decoupage

Step by step

Create the trivet with flat sticks It is very simple and it will take you very little time. In the next video-tutorial you can see the Step by Step with all his details so you can do it yourself.

En summary, start by assembling your trivet as follows:

  1. Align your sticks flat so they are at the same height.
  2. Glue the round sticks in the other direction with the silicone gun, in such a way that all the flat sticks are adhered to them at both ends.

You will already have the structure of your trivet. You can leave it with the tone of the wood, which also looks good, but as you will have seen in the video-tutorial, I have applied the decoupage technique. This technique basically consists of pasting a thin paper with a pattern in such a way that it imitates a drawing that is painted on the surface you are using.

To make the decoupage you must apply a very thin layer of white glue on the trivet. If you use a napkin, remove the white layers, you should only use the layer that has the drawing. Glue it carefully to the trivet. And finally apply another layer of thicker white glue on top to fix the paper well.

Let that layer of white glue dry completely and it will be transparent. You will see that the drawing on the napkin is as if it were painted on the wood.

And you will have your trivet ready to use. An easy, fast and very useful craft.
