We make a homemade loom with a piece of cardboard

In this craft we are going to explain how to easily make a homemade loom that we can use to make rugs, pillows, table mat, scarves or whatever comes to mind.

Do you want to see how to do it?

Materials that we will need to make our homemade loom

  • A cardboard of equal or greater size than what we want to make
  • Scissors
  • Wool, T-shirt yarn and any other type of material to knit that is thick.

Hands on craft

  1. First of all we will take the cardboard, Yes it's small for the measure of what we want to weaveWe just have to add more cardboard and adhere it to the main one. It is important that the horizontal part is firm.

  1. On two of the sides, those that correspond to the horizontal part we will make some cuts about half a centimeter wide between them and about a centimeter in depth.

  1. The next step is cut threads about ten centimeters longer than the measurement of the horizontal part of the cardboard. we'll go hooking the threads First enter a slot on one side and then we will tension it and fix it at the other end in the corresponding slot. These threads will be the warp. After We will go through another thread, the weft, forming a simple fabric. To do this we will take as many threads of even number as we can, lifting them up and we will pass the weft between these and the odd ones that will be glued to the cardboard. Thus, when releasing the threads that we have taken, a simple fabric will be left in which the weft is intertwined with the warp like this: one thread above, one below, one above, one below, etc.

  1. When you get practice you can try other types of fabrics, alternate and play with several to create different motifs.

And ready!

I hope you dare and try to make this loom and weave different things. We will give you some idea on the blog.
