Today we are going to make some fine wool tassels. These tassels are very useful when decorating textiles, bags, use as a keychain or for all those uses that may occur to you.
Ready to see how they are made?
Materials that we are going to need
- Thread of the color chosen to make the tassel (wool or thick threads)
- Piece of cardboard
- Scissors
Hands on craft
- We take the piece of cardboard and we are winding the thread. The first thing is mark width with the own turns of the thread. Then we overlap layers of yarn until achieving the desired thickness for our tassel. We cut the excess thread.
- We cut a piece of thread about 30 cm. We pass it between the winding of threads and the cardboard. We raise the thread to the upper edge. We tie tightly with a double knot. We turn the knot to leave it on the inside of the winding and we take out one end of the thread on each side and we re-tie with a double knot.
- We cut the thickness of the threads wound on the opposite end to which we tied the thread in the previous step.
- We comb all the threads with our fingers so that they are as straight as possible. CWe cut a piece of thread of about 40cm and put it on top of the future tassel, near the thread that we previously tied. We leave one ends a little longer than the length of the tassel and tie the two ends of the thread with a double knot.
- The end of the thread that was long, we are going to roll it around the knot that we just made to hide the knot and make a kind of neck to our tassel.
- When we've rolled up enough we pick up some threads and tie this end with the other that we had left unrolled. We make a double knot. We reposition all the threads.
- To finish our tassel, we just have to cut the end of the fringes to match them. And ready!
Tassels are perfect for decorating handkerchiefs, clothes, cushions, towels, bags etc ... to make key rings or whatever comes to your mind. They can be larger or smaller, depending on the width of the cardboard that we use.
I hope you cheer up and do this craft.
