How to make decorative bowls from polymer clay

bowls tutorial

In this tutorial I teach you to create decorative bowls made of polymer clay in a very easy way. They look great on any table, dresser or furniture to leave keys, jewelry, money ...

Materials

To create the decorative clay bowls you will need the following materials:

  • Polymer clay
  • Bowl that serves as a mold
  • Roller
  • Long chopsticks
  • Moisturizer
  • Acrylic paint
  • Brush
  • Scissors
  • Ceramic finish varnish

Step by step

To create the decorative clay bowls start by selecting the colors that you want to combine, although you can also make them in a single color if you prefer.

In my case I have created two bowls combining different shades of clay. In one I have used two shades of orange, red, yellow and military green.

In the other bowl I have used white, pink, light blue and purple.

La clay That you use can be both air-dried and baked, the only difference is that in baking you must follow the manufacturer's instructions to harden it in the oven.

In the next video-tutorial I leave you the Step by Step and all the details so that you can make the bowls yourself and where you will know what function each of the bowls has for materials which I have listed before.

As you can see, it is not difficult at all, but let's review in a small summary the elaboration process so that everything is very clear and you do not forget any step:

  1. Prepare the workbench and tools by applying a little moisturizer on the surface and on the roller.
  2. Cut the clay into pieces and put them together by combination as you like the most.
  3. Crush the clay well with the roller, and mix the colors a bit.
  4. Knead again with the guides of the long chopsticks so that there are no thicker parts than others.

warm colors

  1. Apply a little moisturizer inside the bowl to make sure the clay will come off well afterwards.
  2. Place the sheet of clay you just knead into the bowl, and seat it well with your fingers avoiding air pockets.

bowls

  1. Wait for the clay to harden or bake it, depending on the type of clay you have chosen.
  2. When it's hard you can take it out of the bowl and cut the edge as you like.
  3. Apply acrylic paint on the edge of the bowl. Metallic colors look very good because they contrast with clay.

paint

  1. When the paint has dried, apply a ceramic finish varnish so that the bowl looks like porcelain.

varnish

And when the varnish dries, you will have your bowls ready to decorate and to store small objects.
