How to make a Kokedama garden

Addition bonsai and ikebana there is another method of japanese agriculture incredibly beautiful, which is the Kokedama garden. Here we tell you how to hang the kokedama outdoors.

The steps are simple, but the most important question in the kokedama garden it is the mixture of clay and earth. Try to get a mud mixture that will stick very well together. When the plant is enclosed, it will feel a bit like a sculptor, achieving a perfectly round garden that hangs down and beautifies the home.

How to make a Kokedama garden

Necessary materials:

  • kokedama plant
  • heavy clay mud, or bonsai soil
  • potting soil
  • moss
  • thread

Instructions:

  • Step 1:: Mix a few generous handfuls of clay with the same amount of potting soil.
  • Step 2:: remove the plant from its container. To cut the roots, pull them gently, without breaking the soil. Rinse as much of the growing media from the roots as possible.
  • Step 3:: Hold the plant with one hand, and with the other, stroke the clay mixture around the roots. Starting at the sides, work the top, then press the clay into the bottom of the plant. Shape the clay into a round ball shape, making sure the mud is against the base of the leaves.
  • Step 4:: Firmly press the moss all over the ball of clay.
  • Step 5:: Cut at least 3 meters of thread. Place the moss cover plant in the center of the string, and then wrap and twist the wrap several times, until the entire garden comes together.
  • Step 6:: hang the kokedama where conditions are suitable according to the needs of the plant. To water, place it in a container of water until the wrapped ball manages to submerge the roots. Because the plant is not in a solid container, care is required because the waterings are a little more frequent than in other plants in the garden.
