Craft a treasure box

treasure box

This summer with so much time to enjoy with the little ones, we can encourage them to make from an empty box and reuse it to make a box to store their treasures. There are infinite variants to be able to paint it to your personal taste and above all, place the best ornaments and paint what you want. In my case, I have chosen a cheerful color and have made some fun children's drawings.

It is made with materials that are very easy to find and although it takes a little longer to complete due to the drying time of your paint, it is actually quick to do and you can have a very original box in a couple of afternoons.

You can view the video of how I have done it:

These are the materials that I have used:

  • an empty box with a lid
  • a piece of cardboard somewhat larger than the cover, as we will make another cover (this step is optional)
  • tempera type paint, of different colors
  • a pencil
  • glue type glue
  • scissors
  • a tassel to place as an ornament, you can see how to make it here
  • anything you want to include in your treasure

First step:

We choose the box and the we paint on all sides, including its main cover. The inner part does not need to be painted. Later I'm going to trim a double cap To stick it on the main lid, if you do this step it is not necessary to paint the lid of the box. When the paint is dry we can finish it off again by painting the box again, so that it is perfect.

Second step:

We choose a piece of cardboard to make the double cover, we will paint it on its edges with a pencil making a wave  for later trimming.

Lo we glue on the main cover and we put some books on top as a weight so that it can be well attached. We let it dry for a few minutes.

Act quickly. paint the new cover that we have placed including the ends of the inner part below. We let it dry.

Third step:

We cut the sides from the box to do a reed that can be attached to the main box. The we hit with tail and we put a weight so that it can join well.

Fourth step:

We do the different drawings both on the lid and on the sides of the box and we make them with the pencil. Subsequently we will paint with paint. We let dry and erase any remains of the pencil.

Fifth step:

At the top and center of the lid we will make a hole to be able to hang one tassel. We must put a double thread and knot it, with this we will join the tassel and tie it with double knotting. I have chosen a tassel but you can choose what you like best. You just need to enjoy this beautiful box to fill it with hidden treasures.
