Original masks for Carnival

Original masks for Carnival

In today's craft we have some very original masks for these Carnivals. We can enjoy a simple costume and put on these masks with animal shapes.

A mask has been made with many leaves that will form the structure of a bird with feathers and we have also made another with very succulent horns so that it can give a different image to the one we are used to. They are quick and easy to make and children can help us make them, with first-hand materials and using cardboard as recycling.

The materials that I have used are:

  • Cardboard to recycle from an egg cup
  • Light blue eva rubber
  • Vivid blue eva rubber
  • Beige eva rubber
  • Red eva rubber
  • Hot silicone and her gun
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Orange acrylic paint
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

You can see this craft step by step in the following video:

First step:

We choose the cartons and cut them in a that take the form of two eyes resembling those of some kind of animal. We paint the cartons black with acrylic paint and let it dry.

Second step:

In light blue eva rubber We draw an oval leaf-shaped shape and cut it out. With the same shape we trace to make another 14 of the same color, and we will also cut them. With the same shape we trace on a piece of beige eva rubber and form 3 sheets. We will also do it with the bright blue foam, drawing and cutting out 6 sheets.

Third step:

In the bright blue eva rubber we place one of the masks and we draw one of the small horns. We cut it out. With this shape we will make a tracing of another one using it as a template and we will also cut it out. We do the same with the red eva rubber, we draw freehand another of the large horns that will form the upper part of the mask, which we will also cut out. With the same template we make another horn that we will trace and also cut.

Fourth step:

On a piece of light blue eva rubber we draw a quadrangular shape with three peaks upwards and cut it out. We paste all the elements of the mask with the hot silicone and we will proceed to do it the other way around, on the back of each element. Finally, we will glue the entire structure of the horns that we form onto the piece of cardboard that forms the eyes.

Fifth step:

We take all the leaves that we have cut and stick them with the hot silicone. We'll start by gluing some sheets to the back of the mask and we're going making its structure up. We are looking at the image of how the entire mask is formed that will simulate the image of a bird with feathers.

Step Six:

We cut out some circles in the mask that will be the shape of the eyes. In the part that we have left in the shape of a nose we will paint it with orange acrylic paint. If we observe that one layer does not cover well, let it dry and cover with another layer.
