Papier-mâché masks

Papier-mâché masks

El paper mache It is a very useful material to create any type of figure in our Crafts. It is a very old technique that consists of wetting paper in glue and gluing it so that when it dries it remains hardened.

The handicraft work that we propose today to elaborate, is then about a papier-mâché mask. To carry out this creation we will need some elements.

Necessary materials:

  • Newspaper papers
  • Liquid glue for paper
  • Acrylic paintings
  • Brushes
  • A balloon

Elaboration procedure:

First we inflate the balloon and knot it well, we hold it upright by hanging it by a thread or holding it with our hands.

We cut the newsprint into pieces, no matter their shape. Mix water and glue in equal parts in a container and stir well.

We have to go sticking papers very wet in our mixture around the balloon, as we are going to make a mask we only have to fill half a balloon making the shape of a face.

We have to cover with at least three layers so that later the mask is resistant and does not bend.

We wait for it to dry and we can carefully remove it from the balloon. At this point we can also add ornaments with papier-mâché, for example a cat's snout or whatever.

When we have the finished structure we proceed to paint it. We must first give it a layer of white or two that cover the entire surface well until we see that the newspaper is not transparent.

Now we can paint it to our liking or add ornaments such as glitter.

Finally, we have to cut the holes for the eyes, for this we put on the mask and mark the area with a pencil before cutting. We also make two small holes on both sides to pass a rubber through them and be able to put it on.

We already have our finished mask.
