Now that we are in the heat, sun and beach season, it is the ideal time to make crafts with shells. In this post, we have devised some tiny and pretty earrings with shells specially designed to give away on Mother's Day. Because, it is not essential to spend a fortune to make a nice gift and above all that reaches the heart of the person who receives it.
These shells have been caught on the Costa Brava, where it seems that, although the sea is a bit rough, it is almost midsummer. So enjoy!
Materials
- Slope base. On this occasion, we have chosen some 925 silver earring bases that you can get either through the Internet or in specialized jewelry stores. These, I acquired them by ebay.
- Shells of the size and color that we like the most. It sounds easy, but finding two shells of the same size is a daunting task. Lucky!
- Tincture. This part is optional and only in case you want to give the piece an artificial air. I liked the solution with the natural shells much more.
- Superglue.
Our Process
We will take the shells and clean them removing all the salt and sand they may have. Later, We will take the superglue and apply a few drops inside the shell, it is important to put enough so that it is well fixed. If we put too little, it may end up peeling off. By last, we will apply the base of the earring and let it dry.
I also tried doing it with heat-sealant glue since it doesn't catch on your fingers and it's cleaner and easier to remove if you get dirty, but it didn't catch on the shell and it peeled off.
The other idea that occurred to me was to dye them by making purple waters but, as I have already mentioned, although they did not look bad, I preferred the natural shells.
Until the next DIY!
