Recycled cardboard fish

Recycled cardboard fish

These fish are so much fun to make. With some simple steps and recycling cartons we can make a very simple and original craft. These fish are painted with acrylic paint and a few small touches with cardboard cutouts. Now we only have to glue the eyes and give it other small touches. To be able to see this craft better, you can watch a video that we have prepared.

The materials that I have used are:

  • 2 cardboard tubes
  • Blue acrylic paint
  • Silver acrylic paint
  • Gold acrylic paint
  • Silver blue cardstock
  • 3 plastic eyes
  • A small piece of orange construction paper
  • Black marker
  • Scissors
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Wooden clips to hold the pieces that we glue

You can see this craft step by step in the following video:

First step:

We paint one of the cartons with Blue paint and we let it dry. We crush the other cardboard and fold it in half. We will cut two of its corners in a round shape.

Second step:

On the other side of the cardboard we are going to make some cross cuts as in the photo, one on each side. The cut parts will be folded down to form the fish's tail. We put these pieces together with hot silicone so that the tail does not disarm. Then we paint the fish of color blue.

Third step:

We take the silver blue cardstock and we are going to draw the shape of a long tail. We measure its proportions well so that they fit with the wide area of the cardboard and we make it geometric. We will do some fine cross cuts at the end of the fin to give it more volume and realism. Later we glue the glue inside the cardboard.

Fourth step:

We draw Two fins that we will cut out and glue on each side of the fish. To keep all the parts that we glued, we will fasten them with tweezers.

Fifth step:

We glue the eyes of the fish and we finished completing it by drawing fish scales in silver color. We will also complete the other fish by drawing the transversal lines and the parallel lines on the tail. With a black marker we draw the mouth of the fish and we glue the eye on one side of the face.
