Watercolor drawing with the technique of salt and resistance of colors.

Today we are going to see a watercolor drawing and how to apply the techniques to salt and color resistance. Painting with watercolor can be a very entertaining technique for children. Using brushes and water is a very fun combination, but if we also add these two techniques, they will love it.

Makings:

  • Coarse-grained paper or watercolor paper.
  • pencil.
  • Watercolors.
  • Pot with water.
  • Brush.
  • Salt Maldom or kitchen salt.
  • Wax or white crayon.
  • Black pen.

Processing:

In my case I have made a seascape drawing a seahorse, but you can let your imagination run wild and draw what you like the most.

  • Apply the pencil loosely, making a few strokes and marking your drawing on the paper.
  • To perform the color fastness technique we are going to apply the crayon or white wax on the drawing. Where the wax is, it will not pick up the pigment, which will leave it blank.

  • I put the brush in the pot of water and moisten all the paper.
  • Then it is the turn of the color: put water to the chosen color and go painting with very watery color. Now is when the reserves of color that we have left will be appreciated and they remain blank.

  • Repeat this process as many times as necessary, It is about making a background with a wash of the chosen colors, this creates special effects, since the colors are mixed together creating others.
  • Then it is your turn to the salt technique, which is nothing more than putting salt on top of the drawing. Spread the salt over the entire surface without the colors drying out.

  • Now if you have to let it dry well, If you are not patient like me, you can use a heat dryer for this function.
  • Once the drawing is dry shake the salt and observe its effects, you see applying the different colors to get the desired image.

  • It is about applying especially where the shadows are created to give volume to the drawing.
  • Last contour these shadow areas with the black marker for more emphasis.
