What is decoupage

Decoupage has its origin as early as the XNUMXth century in Florence, Italy. Although there are testimonies of older objects in China and Japan, where they had developed glues of vegetable and animal origin. They used decorative techniques combining papers to adorn furniture, paintings and other household objects.

Today decoupage has become one of the preferred techniques to decorate all kinds of objects to which we want to give a vintage and sophisticated touch.

Decoupage consists of selecting and cutting out patterned papers and combining them harmoniously on the object in question, then they are glued and protective varnishes are applied.

The types of paper used vary according to its use, it is very common to use napkins. To do this, the layers are extended and separated using only the one with the drawing and discarding the others. Rice paper and in general other types of fine paper are also used.

Prior to the decoupage technique, the object must be prepared, for example, if it is made of wood, it must be sanded and coats of paint. Afterwards, the pieces of paper are applied until the desired combination is obtained and finally several layers of varnish will be given to everything until everything is fixed.
